The Renting Book
Summary
The Renting Book helps tenants, landlords and agents in the ACT understand their rights and responsibilities so everyone can rent safely, fairly and confidently.
It explains the laws that cover renting in the ACT under the Residential Tenancies Act 1997, including:
- starting a tenancy – agreements, bonds, and condition reports
- living in a rental – rent, repairs, pets and share housing
- ending a lease – notice, inspections and getting your bond back
- resolving disputes – how to handle problems and where to get help
- renting in special situations – public housing, community housing and share homes.
Landlords must give tenants a copy of The Renting Book (or tell them where to find it) before a tenancy starts.
