Youth Justice Strategic Plan
Summary
The ACT Youth Justice Strategic Plan 2026–2031 outlines the vision, priorities and actions that will guide youth justice in the ACT.
It provides a roadmap for a youth justice system that helps young people heal, grow and build positive futures while keeping the community safe.
A key priority is reducing the number of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people in the youth justice system.
The Strategic Plan brings together actions from across government, supporting a coordinated approach to improve the ACT’s youth justice system.
The Strategic Plan focuses on 6 key areas:
- Earlier support for children, young people and families
- Keeping young people out of the justice system where appropriate
- Promoting equity, eliminating discrimination and addressing over-representation
- Using therapeutic and trauma-informed approaches
- Respecting and protecting young people’s rights
- Helping young people to safely return to the community.
