Funding: $146 million
The precinct is home to some of Canberra's oldest buildings including the Kingston Powerhouse, the Fitter's Workshop and Former Transport Depot. These buildings already house and support community arts organisations such as Canberra Glassworks and Megalo Print Studio.
The site has significant historical value for Canberra's early industrial businesses. It is also closely located to the Molonglo flood plains, an important Ngunnawal meeting place.
The Arts Precinct will be a destination for visitors and locals to explore arts and culture in the ACT. It will attract new audiences to enjoy arts, activities and events by local artists from the Canberra region and beyond.
The Arts Precinct will be home to:
- Canberra Contemporary
- Canberra Glassworks
- Craft + Design Canberra
- M16 Artspace
- Megalo Print Studio
- photo access
- A new space for Canberra's Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
The ACT Government is looking forward to working with the community and bringing the Kingston Arts Precinct to life.
Construction is currently expected to begin in 2027, subject to development approvals and progress of main works design. Further details on construction timeframes will be available as these progress.
