Funding: $9.265 million
The Phillip District Enclosed Oval is located on the corner of Ainsworth Street and Albermarle Place.
Following the official opening of the new sports pavilion in May, stage one of the Phillip District Enclosed Oval upgrade is now complete. From August 2025, work will commence on the next stage of the project, which includes further enhancements to the facility.
Planned upgrades in this next stage include:
- New irrigation system
- New cricket turf wicket
- Installation of sportsground lighting to support match play requirements for rugby union and rugby league
- Additional improvements to existing facilities, including the existing Michael O’Connor Stand
These upgrades will deliver a modern, high-quality facility that meets the growing needs of local sporting groups and provides a welcoming space for the community to engage in sport and recreation.
Key sporting user groups have been involved in this project. This includes Canberra Royals Rugby Union Football Club, Brumbies Rugby, Woden Valley Rams Rugby League Club, Canberra Region Rugby League, Weston Creek Molonglo Cricket Club and Cricket ACT.
Stage one construction commenced on 29 July 2024 and was completed in mid-2025. Stage two works are scheduled to begin in August 2025 and are due to be completed in first half of 2026.
