Northside Hospital project

Funding: $1 billion+

The Northside Hospital project is the ACT Government’s largest single investment in a health infrastructure project. It will deliver modern facilities to meet Canberra’s growing community health needs.

Current updates

• Planning and design for the new Northside Hospital are underway.
• A Business Case is expected to go to government for approval in early 2026.
• Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) will relocate to a new purpose-built facility in Erindale as part of the early works of the project. Read about the CAMHS relocation.
• Master planning for the North Canberra Hospital campus has assessed a range of design options for functionality, deliverability, accessibility, connectivity, affordability and future development potential.
• Site investigations are underway to inform the more detailed design and construction phase including ecology, bushfire, geotechnical and hazardous material inspections.
• Engagement on the Functional Design Brief commenced with clinicians and staff through project user groups.

Overview

The new Northside Hospital will be built on the existing campus in Bruce. Canberra Health Services will continue to manage it after delivery.

The new facilities will integrate a more modern and efficient health system for Canberrans. North Canberra Hospital will remain open and fully operational during the delivery of the project.
