What we do

We recognise older people as valued members of our community and support them to lead productive and active lives as they age. Some of our areas of focus are:

• raising awareness of and preventing ageism and abuse of older people
• ensuring older people are empowered and have a voice in decisions affecting them
• making sure our services are accessible for all older people.

Our services

ACT Seniors Card: a range of discounts and concessions for government services including public transport, pet and car registration, and with private businesses.

ACT's Age Friendly City Plan: how we include the needs of older people in all our planning decisions. We're designing a community that supports people to thrive in their retirement years.

Advisory councils and reference groups

The Ministerial Advisory Council on Ageing (MACA) brings together community members  with expertise and lived experience in issues affecting older people in the ACT.

The MACA gives advice to the ACT Government on policies and initiatives to support better outcomes for older Canberrans. MACA members welcome comments and ideas from older Canberrans.
