Some ACT community pharmacies can resupply the Oral Contraceptive Pill (the pill) in some situations. You do not need a prescription.

Who can use this service

To qualify you must be:

  • a woman or person with a uterus aged 18 to 49 years (inclusive)
  • taking the pill for contraception (birth control).

You must also have been prescribed a low-risk oral contraceptive pill continuously for the last 2 years by a doctor or nurse practitioner.

Who can’t use this service

If you are not taking the pill for contraception, you must get a prescription from your:

  • doctor (GP) or
  • nurse practitioner.

Participating pharmacies

Please contact your local pharmacy to check if they offer this service. You may have to make an appointment with the pharmacy.

Pharmacies can charge a consultation fee for providing these services. This consultation fee will be in addition to the cost of any medicines provided, if appropriate.

What the pharmacist can give you

If you qualify, pharmacists can re-supply the oral contraceptive pill for up to 12 months.

They must give you the same type of contraceptive pill that your doctor or nurse practitioner prescribed you before.
