Changes to responsible service of alcohol requirements
Updates to Responsible Service of Alcohol requirements in the ACT aim to make it easier for local businesses to employ interstate workers.
About the reform
In September 2022, the government amended the regulatory process for Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) training for interstate workers who hold a valid RSA certificate from another state or territory. You can now complete a refresher training program every 3 years rather than a full course.
Why it’s important
The ACT Government collaborated with business in 2021 to develop Better Regulation: A report on how we are improving business regulation in the ACT. We heard that it’s difficult for hospitality businesses to access the staff you need to run and grow your business.
This reform to the regulation removes a barrier for local businesses by improving your ability to employ interstate workers.
Next steps
We will continue to work with businesses, industry and the community to identify further opportunities for regulatory reform.
Key achievements
Hospitality businesses in the ACT are now benefitting from simpler processes to employ interstate staff.
