Infection prevention and control
This page presents the metrics used to assess infection prevention and control practices. These practices play a critical role in reducing the risk of infection transmission among patients, healthcare workers, and others within the healthcare environment.
Data highlights
Estimated hand hygiene rate
Canberra Health Services participates in the National Hand Hygiene Initiative coordinated by the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Healthcare. As part of the initiative, audits of hand hygiene ‘moments’ are conducted across Canberra Health Services facilities 3 times per year.
Staphylococcus aureus bloodstream infection rate
Healthcare-associated infections are one of the most common complications affecting patients in hospital and can prolong a patient’s hospital stay or result in death. Infections, such as Staphylococcus aureus (also known as 'golden staph'), can be acquired as a direct or indirect result of care received in hospital.
