Summary

To keep our community safe and support ongoing bushfire fuel management, the ACT Parks and Conservation Service (ACT PCS) runs a bushfire management program. This program follows the Bushfire Operations Plan (BOP) and other key plans and policies. These resources help manage bushfire risk.

The BOP covers 9 areas of fire protection:

  1. Fuel management: slashing, controlled burning, grazing, physical removal, and chemical treatment of fuel.
  2. Access management: trail construction, upgrade, maintenance, storm damage and vegetation control.
  3. Infrastructure: development of facilities and systems including helipads, water tanks and roading infrastructure.
  4. Equipment purchase: purchasing the necessary firefighting equipment.
  5. Training: ongoing staff training and education programs.
  6. Auditing and monitoring: regular assessments of fire management practices.
  7. Planning and research: strategic planning and research activities.
  8. Education: educating the public on fire safety.
  9. Response and standby: ensuring our crews are ready to respond immediately to a fire.
