4 August 2014 - Summary of Cabinet Outcomes
As part of the ACT Government's Open Government commitment, these are public summaries of matters considered by Cabinet. They are not intended to be a detailed set of minutes and do not cover all matters considered by Cabinet. Among the matters not covered are materials considered in the formation of the ACT budget, commercial and industrial matters under negotiation as well as matters that would impact personal privacy, security and the ACT economy. Nothing in this document can be considered a waiver of the Government's executive privilege.
Crimes Amendment Bill 2014
Cabinet agreed to amend the Crimes Act 1900 to repeal section 431 which provides that consideration of whether to make an order in relation to a report of a board of inquiry is not a judicial proceeding and places some limitations on the Court considering matters. This amendment is in line with a recent Supreme Court finding and removes potential basis for doubt as to the operation of related provisions.
Reform to the Water Efficiency Labelling and Standards Act 2005
Cabinet agreed to amend the Water Efficiency Labelling and Standards Act 2005 to provide for the establishment and operation of a nationally consistent scheme to apply state water efficiency labelling and minimum performance standards to certain water-use products.
Ministerial Statement on Loose-fill Asbestos
Cabinet agreed the Chief Minister make a Ministerial Statement in the Legislative Assembly about the affected homes by the 'Mr Fluffy' loose-fill asbestos. The Ministerial Statement is available in Hansard.
Appointments
ACT Bushfire Council Appointment
Cabinet agreed to endorse the reappointment of a part-time member and the proposed appointment of a further part-time member on the ACT Bushfire Council for a period of three years, subject to consultation with the Standing Committee on Justice and Community Safety.
TQI Board Appointments
Cabinet agreed to endorse the proposed appointments of several members to the Teacher Quality Institute Board for a period of three years, subject to consultation with the Standing Committee on Education, Training and Youth Affairs for the non government members.
Role of ACT Government under the National Disability Insurance Scheme
Cabinet noted the progress of the implementation of National Disability Insurance Scheme in the ACT.
