Summary of Cabinet Outcomes week commencing 9 March 2015

As part of the ACT Government's Open Government commitment, this document is a public summary of matters considered by Cabinet. It is not intended to be a detailed set of minutes and does not cover all matters considered by Cabinet. Among matters not covered are materials considered in the formation of the ACT budget, commercial and industrial matters under negotiation, as well as matters that would impact personal privacy, security and the ACT economy. Nothing in this document can be considered a waiver of the Government's executive privilege.

Committees of Cabinet

The inaugural Economic Growth and Urban Renewal Subcommittee of Cabinet meeting was convened. Ministers and relevant Directors-General discussed urban renewal and economic growth options for the ACT.

A Budget Committee of Cabinet meeting was convened. Treasury officials joined Ministers to discuss matters of fiscal significance.

Victims of Crime Financial Assistance Scheme Reforms

Cabinet agreed to the development of a bill to transfer the current Victims of Crime Financial Assistance scheme from the Courts and introduce an administratively based scheme, which implements a structured case management methodology, as recommended by the Ombudsman.

Statute Law Amendment Bill 2015

Cabinet agreed the Statute Law Amendment Bill 2015 would include amendments to the Road Transport (Third-Party Insurance) Act 2008, the Legislation Act 2001 and the Magistrates Court Act 1930.

Education Amendment Bill 2015

Cabinet agreed to progress discussions on the future of various education advisory councils.

Road Transport Legislation Amendment Bill 2015

Cabinet agreed to the development of a Road Transport Legislation Amendment Bill to make amendments to ACT road transport legislation and the Crimes Act 1900 to improve road safety and the administration and enforcement of the legislation.

ACT Remuneration Tribunal, Member Appointment

Cabinet endorsed the proposed reappointment of a part-time Member of the ACT Remuneration Tribunal for a period of three years from 11 March 2015.
