Summary
The Domestic and Family Violence Review (DFVR) helps the ACT Government understand and prevent serious domestic and family violence.
When a person dies in a situation involving domestic and family violence, the Review looks at what happened. It does not investigate for the courts or decide who is at fault. Instead, it looks at the bigger picture to find ways to stop similar harm from happening again.
The Review:
- keeps a record of serious domestic and family violence incidents in the ACT
- collects information to understand more about those incidents
- looks for patterns and trends, such as who is being harmed, what services were involved, and what the warning signs were
- carries out research to learn more about how and why domestic and family violence occurs
- makes recommendations to the Minister about how laws, services and systems can better prevent domestic and family violence.
Every 2 years, the DFV Coordinator provides a report to the Minister responsible for the prevention of domestic and family violence.
