General Conservation Policy 2: Hedges in heritage precincts

Summary

General Conservation Policy 2 aims to conserve the heritage value of original hedge patterns separating public from private domain and 'framing' the view of each dwelling and its front garden.

Hedges form a significant component of the heritage values of the Garden City Precincts and the Tocumwal Housing Precinct. The important hedges are generally those on both the front and side boundaries. The Garden City Heritage Precincts in the ACT are:

• Barton Housing Precinct
• Braddon Housing Precinct
• Corroboree Park Housing Precinct
• Wakefield Gardens Housing Precinct
• Alt Crescent Housing Precinct
• Early Canberra Brickworks Housing Precinct
• Blandfordia 4 Precinct, Forrest
• Blandfordia 5 Housing Precinct
• Forrest Housing Precinct
• Kingston/Griffith Housing Precinct
• Red Hill Precinct
• Reid Housing Precinct

There are heritage guidelines for many registered heritage places in the ACT. This policy does not override those guidelines.
