Funding: $40.32 million
Construction is now complete at Acton Emergency Services Station, and we are preparing the building to be a fully operational emergency services station.
The new station will be operational by August 2025 to help ensure our growing Canberra community has appropriate access to emergency services and that fast response times are maintained.
A modern, future focussed station
The new emergency services station will:
- improve access to emergency services in the ACT
- help maintain nation-leading response times to emergency incidents
- provide a modern facility to support the work and wellbeing of our first responders.
It has sustainable design built in, including:
- charging facilities for vehicles such as new electric fire trucks as they continue to join our emergency services
- an array of 180 solar panels that are expected to create 142MWh of energy each year.
Emergency services staff and vehicles
ACT Ambulance Service and ACT Fire & Rescue will be based at the station.
There will be 2 fire and rescue crews per shift and the following vehicles:
- Combined aerial and pumping appliance (CAPA) - takes firefighters and equipment to emergency incidents. Pumps water to contain and extinguish fires and can be used for rescues with its 24-metre hydraulic arm.
- Plug-in hybrid electric fire truck - the first of its kind in the southern hemisphere. An appliance that can run on battery before switching to engine.
There will be one 24/7 ambulance crew based at the station and facilities for:
- up to 6 ambulance vehicles
- electric vehicle charging for our hybrid single response unit (SRU) fleet.
