The Garran Primary School expansion and modernisation provide new learning spaces, a preschool, gym and outdoor areas to support growing enrolments in Woden.

Current update

  • Stage One of construction finished in November 2025 and delivered brand-new buildings, including a preschool, with modern learning spaces and upgraded facilities.
  • Students and staff moved into the new buildings during Term 4, 2025.
  • Stage Two started in late 2025 and involves demolishing the old buildings, building a new double gymnasium and building new outdoor areas.
  • A new futsal court, playground and additional car parking spaces opened for the school to use in Term 3, 2026.

Overview

The ACT Government is expanding and modernising Garran Primary School in Woden to meet growing enrolment demand and improve learning environments.

Garran Primary School has more than 600 students from preschool to Year 6. The upgraded school will support up to 975 students and includes new buildings, outdoor spaces and facilities for education and community use.

The project is now in Stage 2. This stage started with the demolition of the original school buildings and the removal of relocatable learning units. Construction of a new futsal court, playground, additional parking and landscaped outdoor spaces was completed in time for the start of Term 3, 2026.

Construction of a new double gymnasium, additional outdoor learning and play areas, hard courts and landscaping is expected to be completed by the end of 2026.
