Funding: $4.47 million
Lanyon Homestead is a significant place within a diverse cultural landscape. The site is listed on the ACT Heritage Register for its rich Aboriginal, historic and natural values.
The site also has intrinsic artistic value, inspiring artists and providing space for artistic expression.
Its immediate proximity to the Murrumbidgee River, uninterrupted views of the Brindabellas, and the serenity of the rich cultural landscape of Lanyon offers a unique opportunity for those in the arts and cultural sector.
Investment will go towards making the site more accessible and conserving and restoring the buildings so they can be used by artists.
The former Shearer’s Quarters will be fully restored for artist studios and the Nolan Gallery will be converted into staff workspaces and collection storage.
Access to Lanyon Homestead, which is currently via unsealed gravel roads, will also be upgraded to enhance safety while maintaining their pastoral character.
Trees within the site will be conserved, with some to be removed for safety reasons and replaced.
This investment will showcase the dynamic, contemporary and living heritage of Lanyon.
The expected completion date for this project is 2026-27.
