An ACT Government Website

Funding: $16.6 million

New health centres are being built across Canberra to make health care easier to access. These centres will bring services closer to home, reducing the need to travel for care.

Current update

Inner South Health Centre

  • Design work is underway. Community members can still share their views as planning continues.
  • A Territory Priority Project (TPP) declaration has been proposed for the Inner South Health Centre. A Development Application (DA) is still needed for the development TPP declaration. This will exempt a subsequent DA from third party appeal rights. It will provide greater certainty that important community facilities can be delivered quickly for surrounding residents. You can comment on the proposed TPP declaration on the Planning website.
  • A Draft Major Plan Amendment has also been released for this site by the Territory Planning Authority. This amendment proposes changing the area in Griffith from a PRZ1 Urban Open Space Zone and PRZ2 Restricted Access Recreation Zone, to a CFZ Community Facility Zone. You can comment on DPA-06 through the Major Plan Amendments webpage.
  • Public consultation on the Territory Priority Project and draft Major Plan Amendment close 19 November 2025.

Overview

Each centre is a flexible space that can change as community needs change.

They will work alongside the five existing community health centres and nurse-led Walk-in Centres already open in Canberra.

Doctors, nurses and allied health professionals will provide coordinated care at the new centres.

Planning, studies and early design are done. South Tuggeranong will be the first centre to open.
