Attracting investment is a vital part of moving from vision to execution.
Developing prototypes, testing and taking a product to market can require a lot of capital investment. There are many different ways for your business to attract funding for growth. You can look for investment privately or apply for loans or grant programs run by government.
Grants and funding
If you’re doing business in Australia, there are many grants, funding and support programs from across all levels of government. Business.gov.au has created a grant finder tool to collect them together and help you search for ones that are right for you.

Venture capital and capital investment
If you’ve got a great idea, consider venture capital (VC) funding. VC funds can help turn your ideas into reality. If your company is in the early stages, consider pitching to a fund.
ACTivate Capital Fund
The ACT Government and Epicorp have partnered to create the ACTivate Capital Fund to provide venture capital to ACT-based businesses. This Fund is as an Early-Stage Venture Capital Limited Partnership (ESVCLP). Epicorp is the General Partner and the ACT Government is the initial Limited Partner.
What it will do:
The Fund supports:
- start-ups
- commercialisation
- the ACT’s innovation ecosystem
- emerging sectors in the ACT.
Funding
The ACT Government is a key investor, providing $10 million in capital and further support towards the Fund’s management fees. The Fund also encourages private sector investment.
The Fund will start investing in 2025. The Fund will have between $23 million and $50 million in capital.
Governance
The ACT Government has a strong governance role in the Fund. This includes:
- Responsible Investment Policy – details of the sectors the Fund will not invest in.
- Investment Plan – details the Territory’s plan for its investment into the Fund.
- The Fund Licence - available on the ACT Contract Register.
