How we use and share your information

The Education Directorate collects information to manage enrolments in ACT public schools. We may use or share your information for:

• your child's education and welfare
• communicating with students, parents or carers
• ensuring the health, safety and welfare of students, staff and visitors to the school
• managing information technology (IT) services, including student administration
• ACT, national and international assessments and reporting
• quality assurance to provide high-quality education
• managing student identifiers
• any other purpose the law requires or authorises.

We also collect information to track your child's progress and achievements at school.

If your child lives in NSW, we may share information with either the:

• NSW Department of Education
• Department of Family and Community Services, if needed.

This information is stored securely.

Australian Early Development Census

The Australian Early Development Census (AEDC) is an Australian Government survey. It measures how children are developing as they enter kindergarten.

For this survey, we give the Australian Government information on your child. For example, your child's:

• name
• date of birth
• address
• gender
• country of birth
• language spoken at home
• whether the child identifies as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander.

Contact the school if you:

• want to access or correct any personal information
• have concerns about how your information is used.

Protecting your privacy

We protect your privacy by managing and storing information securely and in accordance with the following legislation:

• Information Privacy Act 2014 (ACT)
• Health Records (Privacy and Access) Act 1997 (ACT)
• Territory Records Act 2002 (ACT).
