An ACT Government Website

In order to enable industrial action and keep students safe all ACT public schools, including specialist schools and preschools, will be CLOSED for the full day on Thursday 11 June 2026.

The Australian Education Union has notified the Education Directorate that its members will take part in protected industrial action, including a full day work stoppage that day.

What this means for students and families

The Education Directorate has decided to close all schools to students during this time, in the interest of student and staff safety.

We are again expecting a large proportion of ACT public school staff will participate in the work stoppage, meaning we are unable to confidently plan for safe and appropriate supervision for all students.

There will be no onsite supervision available for students on the day.

Your school will let you know if there are any changes to assessments, excursions or other activities scheduled that day.

The ACT Government acknowledges that school closures have significant impacts on families and these decisions are not taken lightly and that this is the second disruption this term. We have made our best efforts to let families know about this closure as early as possible to help with forward planning. The safety and wellbeing of our students and staff remains our highest priority.

Out of School Hours Care

We have advised Out of School Hours Care services about the closure on Thursday 11 June. Your school’s service will provide further communication to families about any service provision on the day.

Student assessments

Student assessments may be impacted however students will not be disadvantaged by the closure. Schools will advise families and students of any adjustments required.

Protected industrial action

The Education Directorate respects the rights of ACT public school staff to take protected industrial action in support of claims for a new Enterprise Agreement.

We are committed to continue working with staff and unions to reach a mutually beneficial result for our workforce and our school communities.
