Funding for activities led by the local community to reduce harm from gambling

Gambling Harm Prevention and Mitigation Fund: Community Grants

This grants stream is for activities and initiatives to help prevent and reduce gambling harm in the ACT community. These activities are led by local community organisations and individuals.

The program is an ACT Gambling and Racing Commission initiative funded through the Gambling Harm Prevention and Mitigation Fund.

Who this is for

This grants stream is for local community groups, not-for-profit organisations and individuals.

What you get

A grant of up to $10,000 per project.

Check if you can apply

You can apply if you:

  • are an incorporated legal entity with an Australian Business Number (ABN)
  • are an individual or non-incorporated group who is auspiced by an incorporated organisation
  • have public liability insurance.

Entities may include:

  • not-for-profit organisations
  • ACT community organisations including sporting, social, cultural and recreational associations
  • parents and citizens school associations
  • health, community and support services
  • ACT community clubs
  • sole traders
  • individuals, including people with lived experience.

What you can do

Your project must do at least one of the following:

  • reduce gambling harm
  • reduce the disadvantages that arise from gambling harm
  • provide information about gambling harm.

Your project must also provide benefit to the ACT.

You must finish your project within 12 months.

Examples of activities

Projects

Examples of projects include:

  • community development, engagement and education programs (e.g. within school, sporting, recreational and cultural groups)
  • public health information and promotion activities
  • communication activities and campaigns
  • community events and workshops
  • innovative improvements to gambling harm initiatives
  • capacity and knowledge building
  • online learning.

Providing support

Examples of providing support include:

  • practical initiatives for people experiencing gambling harm or their family
  • education and awareness about harms caused by gambling
  • helping people to exclude themselves from gambling venues
  • supporting the family of people experiencing gambling harm
  • self-help information about gambling harm
  • research about gambling harm.

Before you apply

Check the strategy objectives

Your project must be consistent with at least one of the following objectives:

  1. Ensuring government policy and initiatives prevent and reduce gambling harm.
  2. Increasing understanding about gambling harm among government, gambling industry, communities, families and individuals.
  3. Providing a wide range of accessible, responsive and effective services and initiatives that prevent and reduce gambling harm.
  4. Ensuring gambling environments and providers prevent and reduce gambling harm.
  5. Supporting and building the evidence base for gambling harm prevention strategies and initiatives.

We'll assess your application and let you know the outcome by email within 4 weeks.

The Gambling and Racing Commission makes the final decision on all grants recommended for funding.
