Funding for meaningful ACT Reconciliation Day initiatives

Organisations can apply if they:

• are a non-government, legally incorporated entity, or support by an incorporated auspicing organisation
• are a registered not-for-profit or a charitable organisation
• can show that the program, project, or activity will be of benefit to ACT Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community
• can show their strong connection to the ACT Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community
• have no overdue acquittals
• have the right level of insurance to cover their event.

Individuals can apply if they:

• are over the age of 18 years old
• live in the ACT or surrounding regions
• have no overdue acquittals.

Following the eligibility check, a Grant Assessment Team will assess your application. The Grant Assessment Team includes:

• a chairperson
• 2 other assessors
• at least 2 Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people.

We appoint Grant Assessment Team members based on their knowledge of Reconciliation in the ACT.

Grant Assessment Team members will assess your application with the information you provided against the grant’s selection criteria.

If you have been successful in other recent grant rounds, the assessors may consider this during their assessment if we receive a high number of applications. This is to ensure fairness across all applicants.

All decisions on whether to award a grant, or the amount of a grant are at the sole discretion of the Health and Community Services Directorate.

Successful applicants must enter into an Agreement. This will be by a Letter of Offer with the Health and Community Service Directorate. The Letter of Offer will include:

• the grant we are offering
• how to accept an offer
• details on the funded grant amount
• the purpose or activity for which you have the grant
• the term of your funded activity for which you must expend the grant amount in full
• how to acquit your grant funds when you have completed the project.

• Celebration of African Australians Inc - $1,000 - African Drumming Workshop to Promote Reconciliation Day.
• ACT Council of Social Service Inc - $5,000 - Cultivating Cultural Safety and Reconciliation: A panel session emphasizing how cultural safety and reconciliation practices today lay the groundwork for inclusive and equitable workplaces of the future.
• Australia Nepal Friendship Society Incorporated - $2,500 - Building Bridges: Celebrating shared histories and cultures to foster understanding and respect between the Nepalese community in the ACT and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
• YWCA Canberra - $4,050 - Curious Kids Reconciliation Project: Sharing stories and knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural practices with children through fun activities.
• Beseda, Czechoslovak-Australian Association of Canberra Inc - $1,900 - Relationships, Respect and Trust: An art workshop followed by discussion.
