ACT Reconciliation Day Grants

This program aims to fund meaningful initiatives in the lead-up to, during, or in support of Reconciliation Day.

  • Reconciliation Day is a public holiday on 1 June 2026
  • Reconciliation Week runs from 27 May to 3 June 2026.

We give priority to those who can show that they:

  • integrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities into their organisation structures. This may include as board members, staff and senior management positions, or advisory services
  • work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in a culturally appropriate way
  • recognise the need to include Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities in service design and delivery.

This grant is for organisations and individuals.

What you get

A grant of up to $5,000.

Organisations

Organisations can apply if they:

  • are a non-government, legally incorporated entity, or support by an incorporated auspicing organisation
  • are a registered not-for-profit or a charitable organisation
  • can show that the program, project, or activity will be of benefit to ACT Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community
  • can show their strong connection to the ACT Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community
  • have no overdue acquittals
  • have the right level of insurance to cover their event.

Individuals

Individuals can apply if they:

  • are over the age of 18 years old
  • live in the ACT or surrounding regions
  • have no overdue acquittals.

What you can do

The 2026 ACT Reconciliation Day Grants aims to support community organised events with a strong focus on reconciliation. Specifically:

  • promote understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures in the wider community
  • celebrate and raise the significance of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures in the wider community
  • promote understanding of past policies and historical events and their effect on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
  • deliver opportunities to get children, young people, and elders involved and them participate in community events that promote reconciliation.
  • develop seminars and/or panel discussions on the importance of Reconciliation for all Australians.

Your project must occur during the 2026 Reconciliation Week:

  • Reconciliation Week runs from 27 May to 3 June 2026.
  • Reconciliation Day Public Holiday is on 1 June 2026.

We'll assess your application and let you know the result in late March 2026 by email.

Assessing your application

Following the eligibility check, a Grant Assessment Team will assess your application. The Grant Assessment Team includes:

  • a chairperson
  • 2 other assessors
  • at least 2 Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people.

We appoint Grant Assessment Team members based on their knowledge of Reconciliation in the ACT.

Grant Assessment Team members will assess your application with the information you provided against the grant’s selection criteria.

If you have been successful in other recent grant rounds, the assessors may consider this during their assessment if we receive a high number of applications. This is to ensure fairness across all applicants.

All decisions on whether to award a grant, or the amount of a grant are at the sole discretion of the Health and Community Services Directorate.

If you get the grant

Successful applicants must enter into an Agreement. This will be by a Letter of Offer with the Health and Community Service Directorate. The Letter of Offer will include:

  • the grant we are offering
  • how to accept an offer
  • details on the funded grant amount
  • the purpose or activity for which you have the grant
  • the term of your funded activity for which you must expend the grant amount in full
  • how to acquit your grant funds when you have completed the project.
