ACT Youth Week Grants

This program aims to support groups of young people to organise events for other young people. These grants fund innovative new projects that allow young people to lead and participate in activities for other young locals that help to develop the community.

It offers funding support:

  • for projects that encourage youth involvement
  • to encourage young people to develop and carry out youth-focused projects in the ACT community.

Who this is for

This grant is for Canberrans to celebrate Youth Week in 2025.

What you get

A grant of up to $2,000.

Check if you can apply

Organisations

Organisations can apply if they:

  • operate in the ACT
  • are a non-government, legally incorporated entity, or support by an incorporated auspicing organisation
  • are a registered not-for-profit or a charitable organisation
  • are an educational institution (ACT Government school, independent school, private school, Catholic school, tertiary or vocational institution). These can be public, private or independent
  • have no overdue acquittals
  • have the right insurance to cover your event.

Individuals

Individuals can apply if they:

  • are over the age of 18 years old, or have parent/guardian/carer permission before applying
  • live in the ACT or surrounding regions
  • have no overdue acquittals
  • have the right insurance to cover the event.

What you can do

The 2025 ACT Youth Week Grants have 3 priority areas for projects and initiatives:

  • Young people aged 12 to 25 years leading or being involved in developing and carrying out the project, event, or activity.
  • Promoting and celebrating young people’s diversity.
  • Strengthening and building community connections.

Your project must take place during the 2025 ACT Youth Week from Thursday 10 April 2025 to Sunday 20 April 2025.

We'll assess your application and let you know the result in mid-March 2025 by email.

Assessing your application

Following the eligibility check, the Grant Assessment Team will assess your application.

The Grant Assessment Team includes:

  • a chairperson
  • a senior officer within the Community Services Directorate.

It may also include a representative from the ACT Youth Advisory Council.

We appoint Grant Assessment Team members based on their knowledge of:

  • ACT Youth Week
  • local young people.

Grant Assessment Team members will assess your application with the information you provided against the grant’s selection criteria.

If you have been successful in other recent grant rounds, the assessors may consider this during their assessment if we receive a high number of applications. This is to ensure fairness across all applicants.

All decisions on whether to award, or the amount of, a grant is at the sole discretion of the Community Services Directorate.

If you get the grant

Successful applicants must enter into an Agreement. This will be by a Letter of Offer with the Community Service Directorate for the grant we are providing funding for. The Letter of Offer will include:

  • how to accept an offer
  • details on the funded grant amount
  • the purpose or activity for which we have the grant
  • the term of your funded activity for which you must expend the grant amount in full
  • how to acquit your grant funds when you have completed the project.

2025 projects
  • Canberra College - $1,250: Your Future, Your Choice - an event of multicultural workshops, inclusive panel discussions and various activities.
  • College to Uni - $1,000: a one-day event of workshops, peer mentorship and group activities for young people from Pasifika, migrant and refugee backgrounds to provide them with an understanding of their choices for higher education.
  • Queanbeyan Multilingual Centre Inc - $1,150: Kooky Olympics - an event of various challenges and games that are unique to a set of different countries.
  • Melanesian Film Fest Day 2024 - $1,250: a two-day event showcasing films from the Melanesian region including workshops and panel discussions.
  • Woden Community Service Limited - $1,500: Sunset Festival 2025 - featuring live music, fun games and activities, street art, displays, food and drinks at Eddison Park in Woden.
  • Canberra High School - $1,000: CHS Good Mental Health Breakfast - a week of free healthy breakfast for students prior to school to promote a positive and respectful school culture with a focus on mental health.
  • Capital Region Community Services Limited - $1,850: Your Moments Captured - an art-based project for young people to capture their surroundings and experiences as lasting memories with a digital camera or a sketch pad resulting in an exhibition at the Belconnen Gallery.
  • United Muslims of Canberra Incorporated - $1,250: Multisport and Fitness Week for Youth - a weeklong event for young people aged between 12-25 years to try different sports and fitness activities such as Zumba, Pilates and strength training.
  • United Muslims of Canberra Incorporated - $1,250: Sports for Muslim Women - an event offering female only sports sessions for young Muslim women aged between 12-25 years to try different sports and recreational activities in a culturally appropriate environment.
  • Celebration of African Australians Inc - $1,500: African Youth Drum and Dance Workshop - a workshop for young people from various backgrounds to share their traditions through drumming and dancing to promote inclusivity and unity.
  • Australian Multicultural Action Network Incorporated - $1,500: Youth Sport and Wellness Experience: Empowering youth through fun, fitness, and sports exploration - a range of sport and health focused activities for young people from disadvantaged CALD backgrounds to promote wellbeing and to build teamwork and camaraderie.
  • Australia Nepal Friendship Society - $1,500: The Cultural Exchange and Youth Leadership Celebration - a one-day event of informative talks and discussions, performances, sports and other activities, networking and BBQ.
  • Federation of Indian associations of ACT (FINACT) Incorporated - $1,250: Indian Youth Galore: Networking, Wellbeing, and Sports - a networking night focusing on career guidance, wellbeing, and leadership development through workshops and networking opportunities, and a sports day encouraging teamwork and social connection.
  • The Canberra Youth Theatre - $1,500: 12 Hour Theatre Project - young artists to imagine, create and rehearse original short theatre works and perform them to an audience of family and friends all within 12 hours.
