Upper Murrumbidgee Community Stewardship Grants
This grant supports projects and activities that will promote community stewardship on the upper Murrumbidgee River in the ACT.
It is funded by the Australian Government as part of the Restoring the Upper Murrumbidgee River Program.
Who this is for
This grant is for not-for-profit community organisations, schools and community groups.
What you get
You can get a grant of up to:
- $20,000 for community awareness and capacity building projects
- $40,000 for restoration, maintenance and monitoring projects
- $80,000 for large collaborative projects.
Check if you can apply
You can apply for the grant if you’re a not-for-profit organisation or not-for-profit group that:
- has an ABN
- has public liability insurance
- can show that you have permission to use the land on which the project is located.
If you’re an individual or non-incorporated organisation, you’ll need to have your application sponsored by an incorporated community organisation sponsor (auspicing organisation).
You must not be:
- a government agency
- a political party registered under the Commonwealth Electoral Act.
What you can do
This grant is available for projects and activities that promote community stewardship on the upper Murrumbidgee River in the ACT.
Grants will be awarded to projects that focus on:
- Stewardship and engagement: Creating opportunities for the community to participate in activities that promote long-term care for the river.
- Active restoration: Delivering community-led on ground works to improve the river’s physical and ecological health.
- Capacity building: Equipping local groups and individuals with the skills, knowledge, and resources required to monitor and maintain the upper Murrumbidgee River.
- Education and awareness: Increasing public understanding of the Upper Murrumbidgee’s significance, its current threats and its importance to First Nations and regional communities.
All project activities must take place in the Australian Capital Territory.
Funding for your project is for up to 20 months from the date both parties sign the Deed of Grant.
Check what you’ll need to apply
You, or your sponsor, will need to have:
- an Australian Business Number (ABN)
- public liability insurance with a minimum of $10 million to $20 million in cover depending on project type
- letters of support from the land manager(s) and other approvals, authorisations or licensing prior to applying (outlined in the grant guidelines and application form).
After you apply
If your application meets eligibility requirements, a panel will assess it against the criteria in the grant guidelines.
If you're successful, we'll:
- notify you and/or your sponsor by email
- contact you to finalise the Deed of Grant for your project.
