ACT General Practice Professional Development and Wellbeing Fund

The ACT Government is investing in the local general practice workforce. We want to support the wellbeing and professional development of the general practice workforce. We are doing this to strengthen primary healthcare and improve access to care in the ACT.

Through the fund, members of the general practice workforce can access:

  • training and professional learning in areas prioritised by the workforce and the community
  • support to improve individual, practice, and workforce wellbeing
  • support for business or practice improvements. These improvements can build workforce skills or improve workforce wellbeing.

Who this is for

The ACT general practice workforce including:

  • ACT Ahpra registered specialist General Practitioners
  • ACT General Practice Registrars (RACGP or ACCRM pathways)
  • ACT General Practice Nurses, including Nurse Practitioners
  • ACT General Practice staff including practice managers and administrative staff.

Why these opportunities

We use the following principles when we decide how to fund opportunities through the Professional Development and Wellbeing Fund:

  • ACT community benefit – support initiatives that deliver maximum benefit to the ACT general practice workforce and the broader ACT community; focus on making Canberra the best possible place to live, work and study.
  • Value – prioritise initiatives that show good value for money and value for the community, delivering impact while limiting additional system burden (e.g. do not take all staff away from a practice on the same day).
  • Cost effectiveness – support initiatives that target the maximum number of people through the most efficient use of resources.
  • Collaboration – support initiatives that build on existing partnerships and promote collaboration across the local primary care ecosystem.
  • Harness existing strengths – support initiatives that propose innovative approaches and utilises existing skills and strengths within the system.
  • ‘Self, service, system, sector’ approach – initiatives supported by the fund should demonstrate how they will deliver value for the individual, the practice, the local health system, and the ACT primary care sector.
