Summary
The Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with Disability (Disability Royal Commission) delivered its final report to the Australian Government on 29 September 2023.

The Disability Royal Commission made 222 recommendations to support a more inclusive and just society through improving:
- laws
- policies
- structures
- practices.
The recommendations reinforce:
- the independence of people with disability
- people with disabilities' right to live free from violence, abuse, neglect and exploitation.
ACT Government response
Of the 222 recommendations, 129 call for action by the ACT Government. We will work independently and in partnership with:
- other agencies
- community
- other governments.
The ACT Government response outlines the 129 recommendations we are responsible for. In our response, the ACT Government:
- accepts 19 recommendations
- accepts 93 recommendations in principle
- notes 2 recommendations
- requires further consideration of 15 recommendations.
The ACT Government acknowledges the work of the Disability Royal Commission and all those who were involved. We recognise and value the diverse contributions of people with disability to the ACT.
The ACT community will have opportunities to share their feedback and ideas during implementation of the Disability Royal Commission recommendations. The ACT Government will continue to work closely with people with disability and community stakeholders throughout implementation to create a safer, more accessible Canberra for everyone.

Joint National Response
The Disability Royal Commission made 85 recommendations that require collaboration between the Australian Government and state and territory governments.
The ACT Government contributed to a Joint National Response. We continue to work closely with other jurisdictions to implement these recommendations.
