Insights from the 2025 survey

Diverse communities

The community reported improvement in feelings of inclusion and increased awareness of the Office of LGBTIQA+ Affairs. They reported positive feelings about our work to achieve equality.

Harmful experiences

  • LGBTIQA+ discrimination is still very common and often happens along with racism, sexism, and ableism.
  • Experiences of gender-based violence are common: 227 survey participants experienced at least one form of gender-based violence.
  • Transgender and gender diverse people, people of colour, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, and people with disability or chronic health conditions reported more harmful experiences than the broader sample.

Calls for change

The survey shows that the community wants:

  • legal protections to be stronger
  • better access to health services
  • better support for trans and gender diverse people
  • sustainable funding for LGBTIQA+ peer-led organisations
  • strong public commitment to LGBTIQA+ equality.
