Affirmative consent laws statutory review
Summary
The Crimes (Consent) Amendment Act 2022 introduced an affirmative communicative consent model in the ACT.
The Statutory Review of the Act assesses whether these laws have been working effectively and achieving their intended purpose. The Review also considers if there are ways we can improve these laws to strengthen responses to sexual violence.
The Review concludes that the affirmative consent laws are effective, clear and operating as intended. The Review also identifies some areas for the Government to further consider and determine if future reform is needed.
