Summary of Cabinet outcomes

As part of the ACT Government's Open Government commitment, this document is a public summary of matters considered by Cabinet. It is not intended to be a detailed set of minutes and does not cover all matters considered by Cabinet. Among the matters not covered are materials considered in the formation of the ACT budget, commercial and industrial matters under negotiation as well as matters that would impact personal privacy, security and the ACT economy. Nothing in this document can be considered a waiver of the Government's executive privilege.

Committees of Cabinet

Prior to the Cabinet, a meeting of the Urban Development Committee was held.  Relevant officials joined with Ministers to discuss matters of significance.

Government Submission – Inquiry into the accommodation of tertiary education students in the ACT

Cabinet agreed to the ACT Government Submission to the Standing Committee on Education, Training and Youth Affairs – Inquiry into the accommodation needs of tertiary students in the ACT.  The submission details the ACT's current accommodation options for tertiary students and models used in other jurisdictions, describes students' experiences of accommodation and strategies adopted by ACT tertiary education institutions to meet student accommodation needs and provides statistical and descriptive information on anticipated demand. Response to the Australian Energy Market Commission's (AEMC) Stage 2 Final Report

The Ministerial Council on Energy (MCE) requested, as part of a series of jurisdictional reviews required under the Australian Energy Market Agreement (AEMA), that the AEMC conduct a review into the effectiveness of competition in the ACT electricity retail market.  The Stage 1 Final Report was released on 24 November 2010 and found that competition in the electricity retail market was not effective, and set out the analysis and reasons for reaching this conclusion.  The Stage 2 Final Report was released on 3 March 2011 and assessed both pricing and non-pricing options to promote competition in the ACT.  Further information on the AEMC websiteimg-icn-extlink.

Council of Australian Governments

Cabinet discussed the outcomes from the Council of Australian Governments (COAG) meeting, held on Friday 19 August 2011 and the ACT Government's engagement in the Council's forward agenda.  Further information on the outcomes of the COAG meeting can be found on the COAG Websiteimg-icn-extlink.

Canberra Institute of Technology Advisory Council

The Minister will announce the appointment following consultation with the Standing Committee on Education, Training and Youth Affairs.

Canberra Institute of Technology Audit Committee

Mr Kevin Patchell was reappointed as Chair until 31 July 2014.
