Summary of Cabinet outcomes
As part of the ACT Government’s Open Government commitment, this document is a public summary of matters considered by Cabinet. It is not intended to be a detailed set of minutes and does not cover all matters considered by Cabinet. Among the matters not covered are materials considered in the formation of the ACT budget, commercial and industrial matters under negotiation as well as matters that would impact personal privacy, security and the ACT economy. Nothing in this document can be considered a waiver of the Government’s executive privilege.
National Business Names Registration Scheme
Cabinet agreed to the introduction of the Business Names (Commonwealth Enabling) Bill 2011 to transition to the national business names registration scheme. The scheme is part of the COAG Seamless National Economy initiatives. The national business names registration scheme will form part of a range of measures that will provide a variety of on-line services to business. ACT Government Response to the Senate Standing Committee Report on Safety, Rehabilitation and Compensation Amendment (Fair Protection for Fire-fighters) Bill 2011
Further to Cabinet discussion on 2 August 2011, Cabinet noted that the Senate Standing Committee on Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (the Standing Committee) has released its report on the Safety, Rehabilitation and Compensation Amendment (Fair Protection for Fire fighters) Bill 2011 and noted the ACT Government’s proposed response to the United Fire Fighters Union ACT Branch on the same. Statute Law Amendment Bill 2011 (No 2)
Cabinet agreed the Bill which makes non-controversial, minor and technical amendments of legislation under the Technical Amendments Program. The Bill is avialable on the Legislation Register website

Appointments
Cabinet agreed to endorse the following appointments:
ACT Government Procurement Board
Ms Sue Morrell as the part time Chair for a period of one year commencing on 1 October 2011.
Electoral Commission
The Attorney-General will consult with the leader of each political party represented in the Legislative Assembly.
Liquor Advisory Board
Deputy Chief Policy Officer (Crime) as the full time Australian Federal Police representative commencing on the day after notification until 15 March 2014.
Mr Clinton Lewis of the Australian Manufacturing Workers’ Union until October 2013.
ACT Heritage Council
The Minister for Environment and Sustainable Development will announce the appointments after notifying the Standing Committee on Planning, Public Works and Territory and Municipal Services.
Cultural Facilities Corporation
The Minister for the Arts will announce the appointment after notifying the Standing Committee on Education, Training and Youth Affairs.
CHC Affordable Housing
Mr Colin Alexander as part-time Chair, Ms Cathi Moore as part time Deputy Chair and Mr Paul Green as part time Director, each for a period of two years commencing on 30 October 2011.
