Summary of Cabinet outcomes

As part of the ACT Government’s Open Government commitment, this document is a public summary of matters considered by Cabinet.  It is not intended to be a detailed set of minutes and does not cover all matters considered by Cabinet.  Among matters not covered are materials considered in the formation of the ACT budget, commercial and industrial matters under negotiation, as well as matters that would impact personal privacy, security and the ACT economy.  Nothing in this document can be considered a waiver of the Government’s executive privilege.

Review of Health Practitioner National Law

Cabinet agreed the Review of the Health Practitioner Regulation National Law (ACT) Act 2010.  The Review recommended no changes be made at this time to the Health Practitioner Regulation National Law (ACT) Act 2010, noting the National Law is scheduled for review in 2013.  The Report was tabled in the ACT Legislative Assembly on Wednesday 22 August 2012 and is available on the Health Directorate websiteimg-icn-extlink

Government Response to Select Committee on Estimates Report 2012-13

Cabinet agreed the ACT Government Response to the Select Committee on Estimates Inquiry into the Appropriation Bill 2012-2013.  The Government Response was tabled in the ACT Legislative Assembly on 22 August 2012 and is available on the Legislative Assembly websiteimg-icn-extlink

Review of the Protection of Public Participation Act 2008

Cabinet considered the Review of the Protection of Public Participation Act 2008 (the Act) as required under section 11 of the Act.  It was agreed the Act remain in place unamended, but its operation be reviewed if the Act is invoked, or if its availability as a protection to public participants is called into question in any proceedings.  The Review will be available on the Justice and Community Safety Directorate websiteimg-icn-extlink following tabling in the ACT Legislative Assembly.

Optional Protocol to the Convention against Torture and other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (OPCAT)

Cabinet agreed legislation be drafted, based on a draft national model bill, to give effect to the Optional Protocol to the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (OPCAT) in the ACT.  Documentation concerning OPCAT is available on the Justice and Community Safety Directorate websiteimg-icn-extlink.

Tuggeranong Town Centre Master Plan

Cabinet agreed the Tuggeranong Town Centre Master Plan, which outlines the strategic planning and design directions that will inform the progressive enhancement and development opportunities for the Tuggeranong Town Centre. The Plan was informed by extensive community consultation, and developed by ACT Government Directorates and specialist consultants.  The Master Plan and Public Engagement Outcomes Report are available on the Environment and Sustainable Development Directorate websiteimg-icn-extlink

Erindale Master Plan

Government Submission to the Standing Committee on Public Accounts

Cabinet agreed the Government’s submission to the Standing Committee on Public Accounts Inquiry into the Auditory-General Report No. 4 Development application and approval System for High Density and commercial Developments.  Submissions to the Standing Committee on Public Accounts are not made publicly available until they have been considered by the Committee.

Government Response to the Review of Occupational Health and Safety Liaison Officer Funding

Cabinet agreed the ACT Government Response to the Work Safety Council Review of OHS liaison officer funding.  A further review of the performance and effectiveness of the OHS Liaison Officer position is proposed for 2014.  The initial Review and Government response are available on the Chief Minister and Cabinet Directorate websiteimg-icn-extlink

Progress Report on Ministerial Direction to the Canberra Institute of Technology to comply with the WorkSafe ACT Report of 11 April 2012

Cabinet considered a Progress Report on actions taken by the Canberra Institute of Technology subsequent to the WorkSafe ACT report ‘Investigation into compliance by the Canberra Institute of Technology (CIT) with its duties under the Work Safety Act 2008 and the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 in response to allegations of bullying and harassment at the CIT’.  The Progress Report was agreed for tabling in the Legislative Assembly on 23 August 2012 and is available on the CIT websiteimg-icn-extlink The initial WorkSafe ACT Report is available on the WorkSafe websiteimg-icn-extlink
