Summary of Cabinet Outcomes
As part of the ACT Government’s Open Government commitment, this document is a public summary of matters considered by Cabinet. It is not intended to be a detailed set of minutes and does not cover all matters considered by Cabinet. Among matters not covered are materials considered in the formation of the ACT budget, commercial and industrial matters under negotiation, as well as matters that would impact personal privacy, security and the ACT economy. Nothing in this document can be considered a waiver of the Government’s executive privilege.
Committees of Cabinet
A meeting of the Urban Development Committee of Cabinet was held. Relevant officials joined with Ministers to discuss matters of development and planning significance.
Government Response to the Standing Committee on Climate Change, Environment and Water, Report No. 6: Inquiry into the Ecological Carrying Capacity of the ACT Region
Cabinet agreed the Government Response to the ACT Standing Committee on Climate Change Environment and Water Report 6: Inquiry into the Ecological Carrying Capacity of the ACT and Region. The Government Response will be available on the Chief Minister and Cabinet Directorate website
following tabling in the Legislative Assembly.
Review of the Mental Health (Treatment and Care) Act 1994
Cabinet agreed to proposed amendments to the Mental Health (Treatment and Care) Act 1994. An Exposure Draft Bill which includes the agreed amendments is available for public consultation. The Draft Mental Health (Treatment and Care) Amendment Bill 2012 and Explanatory Statement will be available on the Health Directorate website for the public consultation period commencing on 22 August 2012.
Government Response to the Public Accounts Committee Report on Road Transport (Third Party Insurance) Amendment Bill 2011
Cabinet agreed the Government Response to the Public Accounts Committee Report 22 - Inquiry into the Road Transport (Third-Party Insurance) Amendment Bill 2011. The Government Response will be available on the Treasury Directorate website following tabling in the ACT Legislative Assembly.
Government Position on Private Members Bill Electoral (Limit on Gifts) Amendment Bill 2012
Cabinet agreed the Government Position on the Private Member’s Bill: Electoral (Limit on Gifts) Amendment Bill 2012, as presented by Ms Meredith Hunter MLA on 6 June 2012.
Government Position on Retirement Villages Bill 2012
Cabinet agreed the Government Position on the Private Member’s Bill: Retirement Villages Bill 2012, as presented by Ms Porter MLA on 6 June 2012. A previous iteration of this Bill was tabled in the Legislative Assembly on 5 May 2010 as an Exposure Draft for public consultation.
Government Response to the JACS Committee Report on Liquor Licensing
Cabinet agreed the Government Response to the Standing Committee on Justice and Community Safety Report No. 11 – Inquiry into Liquor Fees and Subordinate Legislation. The Government Response will be available on the Justice and Community Safety Directorate website following tabling in the Legislative Assembly.
Blueprint for Youth Justice in the ACT
Cabinet agreed the Blueprint for Youth Justice in the ACT. The Blueprint aims to strengthen early intervention, prevention and diversion options provided to children, young people and their families who are at risk of offending or who are in contact with the youth justice system. The Blueprint will be available on the Community Services Directorate website following tabling in the ACT Legislative Assembly.
