Summary of Cabinet outcomes

As part of the ACT Government’s Open Government commitment, this document is a public summary of matters considered by Cabinet.  It is not intended to be a detailed set of minutes and does not cover all matters considered by Cabinet.  Among matters not covered are materials considered in the formation of the ACT budget, commercial and industrial matters under negotiation, as well as matters that would impact personal privacy, security and the ACT economy.  Nothing in this document can be considered a waiver of the Government’s executive privilege.

Triple Bottom Line Assessment Framework – Pilot Evaluation and Revised Framework

Cabinet were presented with an Evaluation Report into a Pilot of a Triple Bottom Line assessment framework for new initiatives.  The framework aims to strengthen the economic, environmental and social analyses supporting policy development.  The Evaluation Report can be found on the Chief Minister and Cabinet Directorate Webisteimg-icn-extlink.

Direct Sale of Land

Cabinet agreed the Trustees of the Roman Catholic Church for the Archdiocese of Canberra and Goulburn is eligible for a direct sale of Blocks 12 Section 78 and 20 Section 73 in Nicholls for the development of a Catholic secondary school.  A map of the relevant sites is available on the Economic Development Directorate Websiteimg-icn-extlink.

ACT Planning Strategy

Cabinet considered the Draft ACT Planning Strategy 2012 and accompanying public consultation report by Elton Consulting.  The Strategy, once finalised, will supersede the transitional ACT Planning Strategy which comprised the Canberra Spatial Plan and the Sustainable Transport Plan.

Government Submission to the Standing Committee on Public Accounts on the Auditor-General’s Report No 1, 2012: Monitoring and Minimising Harm Caused by Problem Gambling in the ACT

Cabinet agreed the Government submission to the Standing Committee on Public Accounts on the Auditor-General’s Report No 1, 2012: Monitoring and Minimising Harm Caused by Problem Gambling in the ACT.  The Auditor-General’s Report is available on the Auditor-General's Websiteimg-icn-extlink.

Territory Plan Policy Review – Outcomes of public consultation on Commercial zones policy review - Discussion Paper

Cabinet noted the key issues arising from public consultation on the Commercial zones policy review - Discussion Paper, and possible policy responses that will be the subject of public consultation through a future draft variation to the Territory Plan.  The focus of this review is on policies relating to commercial development, including shops and supermarkets in local and group centres.

Progress Report on Implementation of the Canberra Plan as at 30 June 2012

Cabinet was provided with the annual report on the implementation of The Canberra Plan: Towards Our Second Century. Achievements in 2011-12 included improvements to elective surgery waiting times, the funding of a docket system and blitz to improve Supreme Court operations and successful Canberra tourism events. Appointments

ACT Supreme Court

Cabinet agreed to appoint the Hon Justice John Gilmour as an additional judge to the ACT Supreme Court.

Supreme Court Registrar

Cabinet agreed to endorse the re-appointment of Ms Annie Glover as the Supreme Court Registrar.

Law Reform Advisory Council

Cabinet agreed to endorse Mr Wayne Morgan as Acting Chair of the Law Reform Advisory Council.

ACT Veterinary Surgeons Board

Cabinet agreed to endorse an appointment to the ACT Veterinary Surgeons Board, subject to Standing Committee to consultation.

ACT Tree Advisory Committee

Cabinet agreed to endorse appointments to the ACT Tree Advisory Committee, subject to Standing Committee consultation.

ACT Natural Resource Management Council

Cabinet agreed to endorse the re-appointment of the following people to the ACT Natural Resource Management Council:
