Summary of Cabinet outcomes

As part of the ACT Government’s Open Government commitment, this document is a public summary of matters considered by Cabinet.  It is not intended to be a detailed set of minutes and does not cover all matters considered by Cabinet.  Among matters not covered are materials considered in the formation of the ACT budget, commercial and industrial matters under negotiation, as well as matters that would impact personal privacy, security and the ACT economy.  Nothing in this document can be considered a waiver of the Government’s executive privilege.

Appropriation Bill

Cabinet agreed the Final Appropriation Bill 2012-13 and Appropriation (Office of the Legislative Assembly) Bill 2012-2013img-icn-extlink. The Bills were tabled in the Legislative Assembly on 5 June 2012, supported by the release of the 2012-13 ACT Budget.

Public Interest Disclosure Bill

Cabinet agreed to the Public Interest Disclosure Bill 2012img-icn-extlink, which will repeal and replace the Public Interest Disclosure Act 1994. The Bill and Explanatory Statement were tabled in the Legislative Assembly on 7 June 2012.

National Health Reform

Cabinet agreed to the Health (National Health Funding Pool and Administration) Bill 2012img-icn-extlink which will give effect to national reforms for public hospital funding. The Bill and Explanatory Statement were tabled in the Legislative Assembly on 7 June 2012.

Government Position on Private Member’s Bills

Cabinet agreed the Government’s positions on the Greens’ Bail Amendment Bill 2012 and Official Visitor Bill 2012 (No2).

Government Response to the Inquiry into the Prostitution Act

Cabinet agreed the Government Response to the Standing Committee on Justice and Community Safety Report 9 - Inquiry into the Prostitution Act 1992.  The Government Response, which considers changes to the regulation of the commercial sex industry in the ACT, was tabled in the Legislative Assembly on 5 June 2012.  The initial Report and Government Response are available on the Justice and Community Safety websiteimg-icn-extlink.

Review of the Security Industry Act

Cabinet agreed a Report resulting from the Attorney General’s review of the security industry workplace information requirement under section 21A of the Security Industry Act 2003img-icn-extlink. The Report was Tabled in the Legislative Assembly on 5 June 2012.

Government Response to the State of the Environment Report 2011

Cabinet agreed the Government Response to the State of the Environment Report 2011 prepared by the Commissioner for the Environment.  The Government Response, addressing the 22 recommendations put forward in the Commissioner’s Report, was Tabled in the Legislative Assembly on 5 June 2012 and will be available on the Environment and Sustainable Development Directorate websiteimg-icn-extlink from Tuesday 19 June 2012.

ACT Response to the Productivity Commission’s Research Report

Cabinet agreed the ACT response to the Productivity Commission’s Research Report on the Early Childhood Development Workforce.  The ACT Response was tabled in the Legislative Assembly on 7 June 2012.  The Productivity Commission Research Report and ACT Response are available on the Community Services websiteimg-icn-extlink.

Government Response to Report on Future Use of the Fitter’s Workshop

Cabinet agreed the ACT Response to the Standing Committee on Education, Training and Youth Affairs Report 8: Future Use of the Fitters’ Workshop, Kingston.  The Government Response was tabled in the Legislative Assembly on 5 June 2012 and is available  on the Arts ACT websiteimg-icn-extlink.

2012 ACT Closing the Gap Report

Cabinet agreed to the 2012 ACT Closing the Gap Report, available on the Community Services websiteimg-icn-extlink. The Report delivers on the Government’s commitment to the ACT Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elected Body and outlines a whole of government framework for the delivery of programs aimed at closing the gap between life outcomes and opportunities experienced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and their non-Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peers in the ACT and surrounding region.

Appointments

National Capital Authority (NCA) Board

Cabinet considered an ACT Government nomination for the National Capital Authority (NCA) Board to represent the interests of the ACT community.  Appointment to the NCA Board is a Commonwealth Government appointment and subject to Commonwealth approval.
