Summary of Cabinet outcomes

As part of the ACT Government’s Open Government commitment, this document is a public summary of matters considered by Cabinet.  It is not intended to be a detailed set of minutes and does not cover all matters considered by Cabinet.  Among matters not covered are materials considered in the formation of the ACT budget, commercial and industrial matters under negotiation, as well as matters that would impact personal privacy, security and the ACT economy.  Nothing in this document can be considered a waiver of the Government’s executive privilege.

Government Response to the Standing Committee on Public Accounts Inquiry into the Exposure Draft of the Financial Management (Ethical investment) Legislation Amendment Bill 2010

Cabinet agreed the Government’s Response to the Standing Committee on Public Accounts Report 20: Inquiry into the Exposure Draft of the Financial Management (Ethical Investment) Legislation Amendment Bill 2010.  The Government ResponseExternal Link was tabled in the Legislative Assembly on 20 March 2012

Government Position on Private Member’s Bill – Liquor Amendment

Cabinet agreed the Government would support the Liquor Amendment Bill 2012, presented by Mr Shane Rattenbury on 22 February 2012.  The Bill will amend the Liquor Act 2010 to require the Attorney-General’s determination on liquor licence renewal fees at least three months before they fall due.  The Bill was passed in the Assembly on 21 March 2012.

Government Commentary on the Public Advocate (Official Visitors) Amendment Bill

Cabinet agreed to release the Government Commentary on the Public Advocate (Official Visitors) Amendment Bill, as previously considered by Cabinet.  The Private Member’s Bill was released as an Exposure Draft in January 2012.  The Government CommentaryExternal Link provides context around reforms and major policy initiatives as well as a detailed explanation of how current Official Visitor arrangements operate and interact with complaint and oversight mechanisms.

Ministerial Statement

Cabinet agreed to the Ministerial Statement – ACT Emergency Services Agency Response to March 2012 Weather Event.  The Ministerial StatementExternal Link was Tabled in the ACT Legislative Assembly on 20 March.

Introduction of Amending Legislation

Cabinet agreed to introduce, in the ACT Legislative Assembly, the following Bills during March:

  • Duties Amendment Bill 2012
  • Financial management Amendment Bill 2012
  • Human Rights Amendment Bill 2012
  • Statute Law Amendment Bill 2012
  • Road Transport (General) Amendment Bill 2012

Government Schools Education Council

Cabinet agreed to endorse the proposed appointment to the Government Schools Education Council, subject to Standing Committee consultation.

Canberra Institute of Technology Advisory Council

Cabinet agreed to endorse the proposed appointment to the Canberra Institute of Technology Advisory Council, subject to Standing Committee consultation.
