Summary of Cabinet outcomes

As part of the ACT Government’s Open Government commitment, this document is a public summary of matters considered by Cabinet.  It is not intended to be a detailed set of minutes and does not cover all matters considered by Cabinet.  Among matters not covered are materials considered in the formation of the ACT budget, commercial and industrial matters under negotiation, as well as matters that would impact personal privacy, security and the ACT economy.  Nothing in this document can be considered a waiver of the Government’s executive privilege.

Committees of Cabinet

A Budget Committee of Cabinet meeting was convened.  Treasury officials joined with Ministers to discuss matters of fiscal significance.

A meeting of the Capital Metro Sub-Committee of Cabinet was convened.  Ministers joined with officials to discuss key elements to support the effective development and delivery of the Capital Metro project.

Construction Amendment Bill (No 1) 2013

Cabinet agreed amendments be drafted for the Construction Amendment Bill (No 1) 2013. The amendments clarify a range of regulations that relate to the construction industry and other related industries. These will provide immediate benefit in administering the construction regulatory system and are consistent with red tape reduction reforms.

ACT Implementation Plan for National Partnership Agreement on Improving Literacy and Numeracy

Cabinet agreed to endorse the ACT Implementation Plan for the National Partnership Agreement on Improving Literacy and Numeracy.

Community Housing Providers National Law (ACT) Bill 2013

Cabinet agreed to introduce the Community Housing Providers National Law (ACT) Bill 2013. The introduction of the Bill will enact legislation applying the Community Housing Providers National Law to enable the national system to be established.

Revenue Legislation (Tax Reform) Amendment Bill 2013

Cabinet agreed to introduce the Revenue Legislation (Tax Reform) Amendment Bill 2013.  The Bill will implement changes to the Territory taxation system as announced in the 2012-13 Budget.

Statute Law Amendment Bill 2013

Cabinet agreed the Attorney-General present the Statute Law Amendment Bill 2013 in the Legislative Assembly.  The Bill makes minor and technical amendments to legislation including the Health Act 1993, Ombudsman Act 1989, and Road Transport (Third Party Insurance) Act 2008.

Planning, Building and Environment Legislation Amendment Bill 2013

Cabinet agreed the Minister for Environment and Sustainable Development introduce the Planning, Building and Environment Legislation Amendment Bill 2013 in the ACT Legislative Assembly.

The Bill makes minor policy and technical amendments to existing legislation

Direct Sale to Cerebral Palsy Alliance of NSW of Bock 22 Section 42 Scullin

Cabinet was provided information regarding the direct sale of Block 22 Section 43 Scullin to the Cerebral Palsy Alliance to facilitate the development of a community centre (health facility). https://www.planning.act.gov.au/tools-resources/publications

Appointments

Cabinet agreed to reappoint part-time Commissioners to the Legal Aid Commission.

Cabinet agreed to endorse the proposed appointment of Ms Sue Connor as Mental Health Official Visitor.

Cabinet agreed to endorse the appointment of Professor Simon Rice as part time Chair of the Law Reform Advisory Council.
