Summary of Cabinet outcomes
As part of the ACT Government’s Open Government commitment, this document is a public summary of matters considered by Cabinet. It is not intended to be a detailed set of minutes and does not cover all matters considered by Cabinet. Among matters not covered are materials considered in the formation of the ACT budget, commercial and industrial matters under negotiation, as well as matters that would impact personal privacy, security and the ACT economy. Nothing in this document can be considered a waiver of the Government’s executive privilege.
High Speed Rail Study
Cabinet considered the findings of the Federal Government’s Phase Two High Speed Rail Study and implications for the ACT. Key findings of the Study include that the Sydney to Canberra leg of the High Speed Rail Network be constructed first, and that Canberra access the network via a spur line between the Sydney and Melbourne route. In noting the Study’s preference for a city station location in the ACT, Cabinet considered further work is required to assess feasibility and options before any commitment is made to a specific location. Cabinet also noted that the Minister for Environment and Sustainable Development, Mr Simon Corbell MLA is the ACT Government representative on the national Ministerial Group coordinating the project.
ACT Nature Conservation Strategy
Cabinet agreed the ACT Nature Conservation Strategy and first stage Implementation Plan (covering the period 2013-2018). The Strategy and Implementation plan will be released via the ESDD website.
WHS Active Certification Policy – Weighted Assessment Criteria
As part of the “Getting Home Safely Report”, Cabinet considered how Recommendations 25 and 26 of the Report would be implemented. Cabinet noted the proposal for implementation of the Active Certification Process (ACP) and Weighted Assessment Criteria. Implementation of the ACP will ensure that prequalified contractors working on ACT Government projects are implementing their safety management systems. The Point Sanction Classifications and WHS Active Certification Policy Statement are available here.
