22 July 2014 - Summary of Cabinet Outcomes
As part of the ACT Government's Open Government commitment, these are public summaries of matters considered by Cabinet. They are not intended to be a detailed set of minutes and do not cover all matters considered by Cabinet. Among the matters not covered are materials considered in the formation of the ACT budget, commercial and industrial matters under negotiation as well as matters that would impact personal privacy, security and the ACT economy. Nothing in this document can be considered a waiver of the Government's executive privilege.
Committees of Cabinet
A Budget Committee of Cabinet meeting was convened. The Treasurer provided Cabinet with an update on the delivery of the 2013-14 Capital Works Program.
Spring 2014 Legislation Program
Cabinet discussed legislation proposed for the Spring 2014 sittings. Cabinet agreed to table the key themes and government legislation priorities in the Legislative Assembly during the August sittings.
Government Response to Assembly Committee Reports on 2012-13 Annual Reports
Cabinet agreed Government responses to the reports by five Standing Committees of the 8th Assembly into 2012-13 Annual and Financial Reports, which were tabled throughout 2013. The responses will be tabled in the Legislative Assembly during the August sittings and will be publicly available via the ACT Legislative Assembly website.
Training and Tertiary Education Amendment Bill 2014
Cabinet agreed to the proposed amendments to the Training and Tertiary Education Amendment Bill 2014. The proposed amendments reflect significant changes in the tertiary education landscape at both the local and national levels in recent years. Changes to the ACT VET system include the implementation of national and local reforms designed to improve quality, equity, efficiency and transparency.
Amendments to the Canberra Institute of Technology Act
Cabinet agreed to legislative amendments to the Canberra Institute of Technology Act 1987as the first step in the broader modernisation strategy for the Canberra Institute of Technology.
Appointments
Acting Lifetime Care and Support Commissioner for the ACT
Cabinet agreed to endorse the appointment for an Acting Lifetime Care and Support Commissioner for the ACT for a period of two years to provide coverage when the Commissioner cannot, for any reason, exercise the functions of the position or during any vacancy in the position.
Ministerial Advisory Council on Women Appointment
Cabinet agreed to endorse the proposed appointment of a full time member on the Ministerial Advisory Council for Women until 30 June 2016.
Cultural Facilities Corporation Members Appointments
Cabinet agreed to endorse the proposed appointments of two members to Cultural Facilities Corporation, subject to consultation with the Standing Committee on Education, Training and Youth Affairs.
Tree Advisory Panel Appointment
Cabinet agreed to endorse the proposed reappointment of the Chair of the Tree Advisory Panel on a part-time basis for a period of two years. Cabinet also agreed to the appointment of a part time member for a period of two years and an additional part time member for a period of one year, subject to consultation with the Standing Committee on Planning, Environment and Territory and Municipal Services.
National Arboretum Canberra: Strategic Advisory Board
Cabinet agreed to endorse the proposed appointments of nine members for the National Arboretum Canberra Strategic Advisory Board for a period of six months commencing on 1 August 2014.
