8 July 2014 - Summary of Cabinet Outcomes
As part of the ACT Government's Open Government commitment, these are public summaries of matters considered by Cabinet. They are not intended to be a detailed set of minutes and do not cover all matters considered by Cabinet. Among the matters not covered are materials considered in the formation of the ACT budget, commercial and industrial matters under negotiation as well as matters that would impact personal privacy, security and the ACT economy. Nothing in this document can be considered a waiver of the Government's executive privilege.
Striking the Balance - ACT Water Strategy (Final)
Cabinet agreed to the public release of 'Striking the Balance' the ACT Water Strategy 2014–2044 and its associated implementation plan (2014-2018). The strategy establishes the overarching policy framework for implementing the Government's water responsibilities and outlines a vision for water management in the ACT over the next 30 years for a community working together to manage water wisely.
Review of Water Sensitive Urban Design
Cabinet noted the progress of the review of Water Sensitive Urban Design and agreed to the report's recommendations with further work investigating management and funding models to be undertaken and led by the Minister for Planning.
Appointments
Appointments to the Exhibition Park Corporation Board
Cabinet agreed to endorse the appointments for the Chair and Deputy Chair positions to the Exhibition Park Corporation Board for a period of six months.
ACT Teacher Quality Institute Board
Cabinet agreed to endorse the proposed appointment of two members to the ACT Teacher Quality Institute Board for a period of three years, subject to consultation with the Standing Committee on Education, Training and Youth Affairs.
Project Agreement for Empowering Local Decision Making in ACT Government Schools
Cabinet noted that it did not support the Commonwealth Independent Schools Initiative as initially proposed, but the terms of the Project Agreement proposed by the Minister for Education and Training and accepted by the Commonwealth meets the conditions set out by Cabinet, particularly that ACT Government participation builds on the existing local decision framework for schools and will make support available to all 86 schools. While Minister Rattenbury supported the ACT agreement, he asked that it be noted he does not support the Commonwealth Independent Schools Initiative.
