27 October 2014 - Summary of Cabinet Outcomes

As part of the ACT Government's Open Government commitment, this document is a public summary of matters considered by Cabinet. It is not intended to be a detailed set of minutes and does not cover all matters considered by Cabinet. Among matters not covered are materials considered in the formation of the ACT budget, commercial and industrial matters under negotiation, as well as matters that would impact personal privacy, security and the ACT economy. Nothing in this document can be considered a waiver of the Government's executive privilege.

Capital Metro

A Capital Metro subcommittee of Cabinet meeting was convened. Ministers joined with officials and considered submissions on technical requirements decisions impacting the Capital Metro Project.  

Loose-fill Asbestos Insulation Eradication Scheme

Cabinet agreed in-principle to the design elements of the Loose Fill Asbestos Insulation Eradication Scheme: Overview to buyback and demolish all homes in the ACT affected by loose fill asbestos insulation. Cabinet noted that a formal request for financial assistance from the Commonwealth Government had been made by the Chief Minister on 11 September 2014.

ACT Government submission to the Senate Standing Community Affairs References Committee inquiry into Out of Home care

Cabinet agreed to the Chief Minister providing the ACT Government Submission to the Senate Standing Community Affairs References Committee inquiry into Out of Home Care and to the public release of the report on the Parliament of Australia website. Cabinet noted the terms of reference for the inquiry.

Crimes (Sentencing) Amendment Bill 2014 – Agreement to introduce

Cabinet agreed to the introduction of the Crimes (Sentencing) Amendment Bill 2014 during the second October sitting of the ACT Legislative Assembly. Cabinet also agreed to the public release of the Triple Bottom Line Assessment, the Explanatory Statement and the Human Rights Compatibility statement, as well as the non-release of the Communications Strategy. The Bill will be available on the ACT Legislation Register following presentation.

Canberra Institute of Technology Amendment Bill 2014

Cabinet agreed the Minister for Education and Training present the Canberra Institute of Technology Amendment Bill 2014 into the Legislative Assembly during the October sittings. The Bill and explanatory statement will be available on the ACT Legislation Register following presentation.

Gaming Machine (Red Tape Reduction) Amendment Bill 2014

Cabinet agreed the Minster for Gaming and Racing present the Gaming Machine (Red Tape Reduction) Amendment Bill 2014 into the ACT Legislative Assembly during the October sittings.  The Bill and explanatory statement will be available on the ACT Legislation Register following presentation.
