Canberra-Wellington Sister City Agreement
Summary
The sister city relationship between Canberra and Wellington was established on 6 July 2016.
Wellington is the world’s southernmost capital city with a diverse population and a vibrant arts and cultural scene. It is renowned for its bar and café culture, natural environment, and high quality of life, similar to Canberra.
The agreement allows for collaboration in:
- business
- tourism
- education
- cultural exchange.
It aims to enhance the economic and social fabric of both cities.
Several Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) have also been signed, including partnerships between:
- the Canberra Business Chamber and Wellington Chamber of Commerce
- the Woodlands and Wetlands Trust and the Karori Sanctuary Trust.
