Capital of Equality Strategy 2024-2029
Summary
The new Capital of Equality Strategy 2024-2029 builds on the achievements in the past 5 years.
While much progress has been achieved, there is more to do for LGBTIQA+ equality in the ACT. To do this, the new strategy focuses on 4 goals:
- promoting awareness
- improving services
- advancing legal reforms
- supporting resilient LGBTIQA+ communities.
The strategy has 2 action plans.
First Action Plan 2024-2026
Its First Action Plan 2024-2026 had 37 actions for ACT Government agencies. It finished in June 2026.
Second Action Plan 2026-2028
Its Second Action Plan 2026-2028 has 36 actions for ACT Government agencies to implement, with the goal of achieving meaningful and lasting change.
Some highlights of our actions until December 2028 include:
- working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander LGBTIQA+Advisory Group to improve wellbeing for these communities
- improving data about experiences of LGBTIQA+ communities in the ACT
- improving safety for LGBTIQA+ people from violence, discrimination and hate crimes
- continuing to fund peer-led LGBTIQA+ organisations including services for trans and gender diverse people, and LGBTIQA+ parents and carers
- supporting projects through the Capital of Equality Grants Program
- developing guides for LGBTIQA+ communities on self-advocacy.
