Nature Conservation Strategy
Summary
The Nature Conservation Strategy 2013 to 2023 (the Strategy) helps to guide the management of nature in the ACT.
The Strategy sets out a Vision and three desired Outcomes for nature conservation in the ACT:
- Native vegetation and biodiversity is maintained and improved.
- Landscapes are more resilient, including to climate change.
- Community health and wellbeing is increased through use and appreciation of natural areas and ‘green assets’ in urban areas.
The Strategy sets out Actions required to achieve these outcomes and helps guide where the ACT Government spends resources.
Key priority areas include:
- Helping our environment adapt to climate change.
- Managing pest animals and weeds.
- Protecting threatened species and habitats.
- Supporting citizen science.
- Creating more ways for people to enjoy nature.
The Conservator of Flora and Fauna worked closely with the community and other groups to develop the Strategy.
