An ACT Government Website

This guideline provides practical advice for collecting administrative data on the activities your service delivers and the activities and outputs it produces.

Data about activities and outputs is essential for tracking service delivery, monitoring performance, and supporting evaluation efforts. This guideline outlines key data points to capture and provides flexible approaches that can be adapted to different service models. This data is part of the Minimum Dataset (MD).

Justice services funded by ACT Government are required to collect the MD, which is comprised of:

  • client characteristics (Guideline 3), and
  • activities and outputs delivered by your program (this Guideline).

This guideline provides practical steps for collecting, recording, and using activity and output data while ensuring consistency and security.

An example data collection tool (spreadsheet) is provided as a template. The tool should be read and used alongside the detailed definitions and guidance provided in this Guideline [PDF 1.12MB] from pages 4-20.

You should use this resource as part of:

  • Stage 2 of the workflow map, Create your project plan to select data sources and design data collection tools
  • Stage 3 of the workflow map, Collect data to record activities and outputs.

To understand where you should use each resource read the full workflow map [PDF 1.55MB].
