Sex, Gender, Variations of Sex Characteristics and Sexual Orientation Common Dataset
Summary
Under the Second Action Plan 2019-2023, the ACT Government aimed to improve the way data is collected, shared, and accessed on sex, gender, variations of sex characteristics, and sexual orientation. In 2022, we released a common dataset to make data collection more accurate, consistent, and focused on people’s needs. This resource helps the government make better decisions, develop policies that consider gender and diversity, and create services that meet the needs of the community.
The common dataset includes:
- definitions of key terms
- question wording for each variable
- guiding principles for data collection
- information on when and how to ask certain questions
- details on privacy and consent
- feedback from community consultations.
