The Alexander Maconochie Centre Drug and Blood-borne Virus Strategy
Summary
ACT Corrective Services (ACTCS) and Canberra Health Services (CHS) are working together to:
- reduce alcohol and other drug use
- minimise the related harms of blood-borne viruses in the Alexander Maconochie Centre (AMC)
The Alexander Maconochie Centre Drug and Blood-borne Virus Strategy (the Strategy) aims to:
- provide an integrated, harm minimisation approach to substance use and blood-borne viruses
- address the risks to the safety and security of detainees, staff and the correctional centre
- improve health outcomes for detainees.
The Strategy has 5 goals:
- reduce supply
- reduce demand
- reduce harm
- improve prevention, detection and response to blood-borne viruses
- build capability and an enabling environment. This includes improving the frameworks used to track and respond to instances of drugs and blood-bourne viruses in custody.
We developed this Strategy with subject matter experts in government and the community. There were multiple rounds of feedback.
The listening report is a summary of the feedback we heard about the Strategy and our responses.
