ACT Work Health and Safety Council

We advise the Minister for Skills, Training and Industrial Relations on work health and safety.

What we do

The ACT Work Health and Safety Council (WHS) is established under the Work Health and Safety Act 2011.

The WHS Council meets quarterly and provides advice to the Minister for Skills, Training and Industrial Relations on:

  • work health and safety
  • workers' compensation
  • bullying and other workplace psychosocial issues.

The WHS also advises the Minister on the activities and function of the ACT's work health and safety regulator - WorkSafe ACT.

The Work Safety Group supports the functions of the Council.

Our members

The WHS Council is comprised of 10 appointed members as follows:

  • Frances Crimmins (elected Chair) – employer representative
  • Greg Harford – employer representative
  • Chris Gatfield – employer representative
  • Anna Neelagama – employer representative
  • Geordan Murray – employer representative
  • Michael Hiscox (elected Deputy Chair) – employee representative
  • Kasey Tomkins – employee representative
  • Madeline Northam – employee representative
  • Thomas Cullen – employee representative
  • Damian Kirkwood – employee representative.

Ex-officio members

Ex-officio members on the WHS Council are:

  • Work Health and Safety Commissioner
  • Public Sector Workers Compensation Commissioner.

Acting appointed members

Acting appointed members may attend meetings if a member is absent. Appointed acting members include:

  • Patrick Judge – employee representative
  • Molly Glendenning – employee representative
  • Emily Shoemark – employer representative
  • Susie Walford – employer representative
  • Greg Weller – employer representative
  • Vacant – employee representative.
