Length of approval: 1 January 2043. Following this date, the offset areas will be incorporated into the Canberra Nature Park.
Where are the Gungahlin offset areas?
As part of the Taylor, Jacka, Moncrieff, Throsby, Kenny and Gungahlin Town Centre developments, the following offset areas have been or will be established within the Gungahlin district:
- Throsby North, Throsby East and Kenny Broadacre Offset Areas
- Kinlyside Offset Area
- Nadjung Mada Offset Area
- Jacka, Taylor and Horse Park North Offset Areas
Why is it an offset?
The Gungahlin Strategic Assessment was completed to establish a balance of residential, employment and conservation areas within the Gungahlin district.
The Gungahlin Strategic Assessment sites have complementary conservation objectives concerning Matters of National Environmental Significance (MNES), protected under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act). Specifically:
- Box-gum grassy woodland (White box - Yellow box- Blakely's red gum grassy woodland and derived native grassland)
- Golden Sun Moth (Synemon plana)
- Striped Legless Lizard (Delma impar)
- Superb Parrot (Polytelis swainsonii)
