Affordable Community Housing Land Tax Exemption Scheme Grant Program

This grant program provides a total of $500,000 over 4 years to help community housing providers (CHPs) manage and expand affordable rentals under the scheme.

The program also contributes to increasing affordable rental homes in the ACT as part of the broader work to grow affordable housing supply.

The Affordable Community Housing Land Tax Exemption Scheme gives property owners a land tax exemption when they rent their property at below-market rates to eligible tenants through a registered community housing provider.

Who is this for

This grant is for community housing providers.

What you get

You can apply for up to $250,000.

The amount available each year depends on the total funding available.

Check if you can apply

You can apply if you:

  • are a registered CHP under the National Regulatory System for Community Housing
  • have experience managing tenancies and private rental properties
  • can comply with all scheme requirements.

What you can do

You can use the funding for:

  • bringing more properties into the scheme
  • staff and running costs
  • systems that help with compliance and reporting
  • activities that improve service delivery or help more people take part in the scheme
  • tenant support services.

Apply

To apply, complete the following steps.

  1. Fill in the Applicant Response Form and Conflict of Interest Declaration Form.
  2. If you want changes to the Deed of Grant, fill in the Draft Deed of Grant Departure Request Form.
  3. Email your completed documents to affordablehousing@act.gov.au by the closing date.

After you apply

A panel will assess your application against the criteria.

If you get the grant

If your application is successful, you’ll sign a grant agreement, called a Deed of Grant. If you need to request any changes, use the optional Draft Deed of Grant Departure Request Form.

You’ll receive your funding each year after you submit an invoice.
